Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a teenager 18 years growing up in slums in India, named Jamal Malik (Dev Patel). Jamal suddenly become millionaires after winning a game show 'Who Wants To Be A Millionare' version of India.

Grew up in slums and work only as a waiter in a phone service company, but Jamal able to answer all questions. Because of the poor, he was suspected of cheating and fraud in answering questions in the quiz. As a result, prior to the last question Jamal was taken to the police station for questioning. The police began interrogating Jamal. But no confession obtained fraudulent. Jamal with innocence instead talked about his childhood and full exploitation of street crime in the slum city of Mumbai, India. Unintentionally, from his experience that he was able to answer all quiz questions delivered by Prem Kumar (Anil Kapoor). For example, when Jamal had a gun inventor questions, direct memory focused when Jamal and his brother, Salim (Madhur Mittal), tries to find the woman who loved Jamal named Latika (Freida Pinto).
